This 2-day intensive is for experienced improviser who are looking to level up on their fundamentals and dig deeper into great scenes. Do you find that, after a great start, your scenes wander aimlessly or unfocused and lack bite? We will work on your complete skillset, make your moves bolder and your choices sharper. You will get personal feedback on how to continue becoming a great improviser. We will focus on techniques for longform improvisation for both Narrative and Game of the Scene, being an actor from inside the scene with a director’s eye from the outside.

I’d love to share these with you, because maybe it helps YOU understand improv better. Why things work and why things don’t. Improv is balloons. I am a balloon. You are a balloon. At initiation, we are two tiny points. As we add our names, our characters, our desires… we expand as balloons until they touch each other. THAT’s when the “real” scene starts. In this workshop, we learn to give space AND take up space so that you and your partner can build a scene together as equals. We look at fast expansion with big characters, we look at slower scenes, and find what is you and your partner’s natural rhythm.

Improv duos are magical. It's the ultimate challenge for an improviser, with no one to save you and your partner. And boy, is it rewarding! Learn how to navigate the 2-person game, inspire each other and keep the scene rolling. In the end, create a 20-minute performance piece which you and your partner will be proud of. This genre class focuses on Japanese anime! But not just any anime, a specific anime where you battle each other in ridiculous ways. Do dramatic yet funny and behave like real characters in Japanese style improv in a grounded way.

You will become open to other stories in the world, learn how to play even when you don’t know the culture references, and reflect that maybe you know about your cultural roots more than you expect.
